The Reconciliation Ministry Team at the Cathedral and the chaplaincy at Coventry University are supporting holocaust survivor, Susi Bechhofer, launch her book “Rosa” at The National Holocaust Centre and Museum in Nottingham.
Susi’s book tells the story of her mother who was separated from her twin daughters when they were put onto the “Kindertransport” in 1939. Rosa herself died in Auschwitz in 1943. In the forward to the book Mark Beach writes:
“Susi speaks of Nazi Germany, of Kinderstransport, and of identifying roots in the Jewish Diaspora. This is also the story of modern times because it relates to so many other communities and peoples ripped from what is known and secure into an unknown future.”
This moving story is about healing the hurts of the past, and being reconciled to one’s own history. As a survivor of the holocaust and someone whose life spans two major faiths, and two opposing sides in the war, Susi embodies the reality of conflict, both religious, political and personal.
Susi speaks of Nazi Germany, of Kinderstransport, and of identifying roots in the Jewish Diaspora. This is also the story of modern times because it relates to so many other communities and peoples ripped from what is known and secure into an unknown future. Mark Beach Rosa was Susi’s mother, who was separated from her twin daughters when they were put onto the ‘Kindertransport’ in 1939. Rosa herself died in Auschwitz in 1943. Rosa represents so many innocent Jewish people who died at a dreadful time in history for no other reason than that they were Jewish. Our book is a tribute to Rosa, and to all those who died. It is also a tribute to Susi and to all those who survived, often to live lives coloured by sadness and longing for lost family members and for what might have been if they had been born at a more peaceful time in history.
The book launch will take place at 2pm on 28th May 2017.
