Wyken Community Centre
At 2pm on 2 March 2023, Sherbourne University of the Third Age (U3A) will host an event called Coventry Restorative Stories in Wyken Community Centre.
This project aims to promote awareness of Restorative Justice (RJ) within Coventry.
RJ brings those harmed by crime or conflict and those responsible for the harm into communication, enabling everyone affected by a particular incident to play a part in repairing the harm and finding a positive way forward.
The Ministry of Justice wants RJ to be embedded into the criminal justice system, but we are still very far from this, partly because it requires the public to be more aware of the benefits so they are more likely to take part when it is offered to them.
The uptake of RJ within Coventry is especially low, something the organisers (Coventry Restorative Justice Forum) hope to begin to change with this event.
This event will feature an introduction by trained RJ facilitators from Remedi. This organisation helps to deliver RJ within the West Midlands Hub.
There will also be an opportunity for members of the audience who have needed or used RJ to talk about their experiences, hence the title “Restorative Stories”. If you have a story you would like to tell us, please contact us via covrj.uk/stories
The event is kindly supported by a grant from the University of Warwick.
