Flame of Friendship
In the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic/Paralympic Games which starts on 26 July 2024, schools across Coventry will be taking part in a relay run, starting from Coventry Cathedral in February 2024, carrying a bespoke designed torch from school to school.
The aims of Flame of Friendship are:
- To build friendship links between Coventry schools and their wider communities
- To develop strong, active and healthy communities, with a focus on wellbeing
- To promote the Olympic and Paralympic values, especially that of friendship
- To create awareness of Paris 2024 Games and to develop intercultural understanding
Warwick University Institute of Engagement are supporting Coventry schools to design and make their own Olympic torch to be used in the relay. The relay will be followed by a final run and mini-parade across the University of Warwick campus and into the Butterworth Hall at Warwick Arts Centre. Here participating schools will take part in a celebration of the Olympics and Paralympics, sharing highlights of the torch relay.
