Kate Hills’ Tribute to Colin Scott
It was with great sadness that Positive Images Festival lost one of our founders, Colin Scott. I know that it was felt by many in the city of Coventry and we have received some wonderful messages and emails, stating the impact that Colin has had on so many over the years, organisations, individuals, artists and performers, and we thank you for your messages and the involvement you have had with Colin and Positive Images Festival.
Personally speaking, I have felt the loss deeply. Colin was a wonderful inspirational person to work with. I know that I speak for many of you when I say that I will always be so grateful to Colin for the work he did, and my own involvement with P.I.F. over the years.
I first met Colin through Leanne Bridgewater and Anthony Owen. As an artist, I didn’t have any connections as I was new to the city and wanted to run an art-based workshop, using mindfulness techniques to improve overall well-being. My introduction to Colin was invaluable as an artist and Colin really liked the idea. This was the start of a wonderful professional relationship, but also a great friendship.
I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have done and achieved many of the things I have done and continue to do, without the help of Colin Scott and P.I.F.
I became Chair of Positive Images Festival a couple of years ago, a position that I was very happy to take up, as Colin and I shared a passion for the arts, making it accessible in its many forms and inclusive of everyone in the city.
Positive Images Festival will be celebrating its 30th year, this year. What a wonderful legacy Colin left for the city and one that the P.I.F team wish to continue!
This year may look a little different as we find our feet. Our plans for this year are to continue the monthly poetry workshops delivered by the first Poet Laureate of Coventry, Emilie Lauren Jones, the women’s art group, Hillfields Readers Group and the multicultural concert to be held later in the year.
We would very much like to put on an exhibition of photos and comments from the previous years, to celebrate our 30th year but also as a memorial to Colin Scott, where people can also write a little message about their involvement, how they knew Colin and what it has meant to them. The date will be confirmed and posted on our social media and website.
I thank everyone of you that has taken part in the P.I.F and appreciate you continuing to do so, as we move forward.
