Musalaha – bringing reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians
Musalaha, which means “Reconciliation” in Arabic, is a faith-based organization that teaches, trains and facilitates reconciliation mainly between Israelis and Palestinians from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, and also international groups, based on biblical principles of reconciliation, restoring relationships while challenging systematic injustices.
Since its creation in 1990, an Executive Board of Palestinian and Israeli community leaders have led this organization by promoting, facilitating, and teaching reconciliation and unity within our society and internationally.
The Executive Director Daniel Munayer toured the UK in October 2022 and spoke on conflict resolution in St Paul’s Cathedral and other places. He posed the question “What is reconciliation?” and answered it by describing Musalaha’s 6-stage cyclical process:
1. Beginning relationships
2. Opening up
3. Withdrawal
4. Reclaiming identity
5. Committing and returning
6. Taking steps/acting
Musalaha has discovered that young people are more open to change than older people and women are more open than men. Women are the peacemakers.
Musalaha’s motto is: Educate, Equip, Engage.
