They were introduced by Rebecca Bollands, Deputy Headteacher of Howes Primary School, Coventry, and consisted of Taiko drumming by Coventry pupils who then introduced the garden to visitors and invited the Lord Mayor to speak.
He addressed guests and invited ambassador Hayashi to speak.
After Ambassador Hayashi had addressed the guests, the afternoon concluded with the joint cutting of a sash by Ambassador Hayashi and the Lord Mayor of Coventry, thereby officially opening the Japanese Peace Garden which has been designed and constructed by Coventry Young Ambassadors.
