Planning the future of Lord Mayor’s Committee for Peace and Reconciliation
As I take over as Chair of the Lord Mayor’s Committee for Peace and Reconciliation, my first thoughts are to thank Ruth Longoni who has led the Committee so well during the past five years. Her term in office included delivering a thought-provoking address at the Hiroshima Day Memorial in 2017.
That event also, for the first time, included participation by students from Cardinal Newman school, and this type of engagement is very much what I am hoping to encourage during my term in office.
The first task I want to undertake is to review the current activities of the Committee and consider what we should be doing during the months and years to come. To this end I would like to invite you to let me know your thoughts. What do you think the Committee for Peace and Reconciliation should be doing? Which of the previous activities do you consider to be most important? (You can see a list of last year’s activities here).
I look forward to helping this Committee grow and become even more relevant to the lives of the people of Coventry. Please note that meetings of the Committee are open to the public and new members are always welcome. Our next meeting will be in the Council House at 19:00 on Wednesday 14 March.
