Schools Peace & Justice Forum Event Report
Report of an event held on 9 November 17 in St Michael’s House, Hill Street, Coventry during Coventry Peace Festival.
The event was Organised jointly by Coventry Schools Peace & Justice Forum and United Nations Association Coventry Branch. It was generously sponsored by Coventry City Council.
The Chair of Coventry Schools Peace & Justice Forum and Secretary of United Nations Association Coventry Branch Philip Brown gave a presentation. He introduced the Coventry Schools Peace and Justice Forum as a panel of peace activists who want to help teachers working on peace-related topics.
He briefly described the United Nations targets which are: Peace & Security, Justice & Human Rights, Sustainable Development. He introduced the United Nations Association, which is not part of the UN.
He then introduced an online database that the Forum has created which provides a portal into a wide range of peace and justice related resources suitable for use in schools and categorised by primary, secondary and further education as well as many sub-categories.
He said the easiest way to find a resource was to use the search field.
He spoke about the new SACRE Syllabus for RE Education in Coventry & Warwickshire.
He then introduced a Peace Project that the UNA Coventry and the Forum are planning. This will send UNA Ambassadors from the two universities into schools to show films and talk about War, the UN, Peace and Reconciliation.
The presentation was followed by a discussion with the delegates who included teachers, members of the Schools Peace & Justice Forum and UNA Ambassadors.
