Victims of Sexual Abuse should be offered Restorative Justice
Restorative Justice (RJ) should be offered to victims of sexual abuse, especially those who suffered it as children. As was discussed in the BBC Radio 4 programme World at One today, many of these people have grown to adulthood and coped with the trauma by suppressing it. Police enquiries or other events can re-open these suppressed memories and lead to depression and suicide.
These people are often not helped by the existing mental health service, but can be helped by RJ procedures. See for example the article by Jon Collins or the Abuse Survivors Blog.
