Equip yourselves with some simple, family-friendly bushcraft and survival skills as part of the exciting Go Parks project, with the Wild Earth team, and take these learnings back to your communities. Roots in Nature will be practising the ancient Japanese art form of Hapa Zome – meaning ‘leaf dye’- and working on your wellbeing with worry dolls.
Get crafty with Creative Kindness who’ll be exploring the lifecycle of the butterfly, with Origami, painting pebbles and making mini bug hotels from household waste. Garden Organic will give you the know-how on home composting, seed sowing and organic growing, while Team Springboard will be arming you with seed bombs in a bid to boost biodiversity.
Join The Outdoor Partnership for a nature trail around the orchard and hear from Historic Coventry Trust about your local heritage and how you can get involved with the many events on offer at Charterhouse. Voluntary Action Coventry will be alongside us, sharing how you can build your skills and confidence, as a volunteer, to create positive change where you live.
Visit the orchard tent to hear the gentle sounds of resident musician, Chris Sidwell, and see the wonderful textiles from artist in residence, Michala Gyetvai. We’re also delighted to welcome sculptor, George Wagstaffe, who’ll be exhibiting some of his work and talking about his new public art commission.
Melanie Moon will be serving up free, delicious vegetarian treats, fermented pickles and chutneys – all made from food waste, homegrown and foraged ingredients, with produce donated by Charlie’s. Recipes will be available to then try making at home, helping you to become more self-sufficient in the kitchen, while cooking up healthy, low-cost foodstuffs.
Music will also be provided courtesy of the brilliant Bands in the Park, from Coventry City Council, while you enjoy a picnic or tuck into a range of complimentary refreshments. There’ll be lots of activities to connect you with each other and the earth as you breathe in the beauty of The Peace Orchard and share friendship, food and fun.
Whether you’re an organisation or an individual, this is a great opportunity to bring together and shine a light on some of this region’s community-spirited fine folk, who are raising spirits, reinforcing resilience and serving up sustainability. So, bring an open mind and an open heart, dress for the weather, and let’s make more good stuff happen in Coventry.
We can’t wait to welcome you!
