30 July was established as the International Day of Friendship by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.
The resolution places emphasis on involving young people, as future leaders, in community activities that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity.
School is often the place where many of us meet our best friends. Yet, with 1 in 3 students aged 13-15 experiencing bullying, for many young people school can be tough. That’s why South Korean boy band BTS are calling on young people to brighten someone’s day with kindness, as part of UNICEF’s campaign to #ENDviolence in and around schools. See their campaign #ENDviolence with BTS.
Join them! Leave a kind note for someone, either in real life or on the internet, and share it for others to see. By choosing respect, support and kindness, we can make our communities safe and supportive.
