Hiroshima Day 2026
On 6 August 2026, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the dropping of the world’s first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Coventry Lord Mayor’s Committee for Peace and Reconciliation organised Hiroshima Day activities in Coventry Cathedral including Taiko drumming and the telling of Sadako’s Story by students from Coventry schools.
The Committee also invited distinguished guests including the representative of the Japanese Embassy Councillor Kikuchi, the General Secretary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament Sophie Bolt, Deputy Lord Lieutenant David Moorcroft and other distinguished figures.
In addition, Coventry Lord Mayor, Councillor Roger Bailey, invited members of the Committee and their guests to Coventry Council House for afternoon tea.
The video below, recorded by Sandra Zhang of Godiva Trust Coventry, shows the speeches delivered at that event by Councillors Bailey and Kikuchi.
