INSPIRE Event, Coventry Cathedral
On Friday, 9th November, almost 450 primary and secondary students from schools across the Coventry area arrived at Coventry Cathedral as part of a nationwide INSPIRE event to commemorate the 100th year of the end of WW1.
This event focused on not just remembering the Armistice, but also asking students to consider how they could become peace-makers in their own lives.
Throughout the morning, the students shared in song, dance and quite reflection as well as hearing testimonials from those affected by conflict in the modern day.
At the end of the event, drawing inspiration from the multiple colours of poppy that have arisen since the Armistice, the students attempted to form a heart with different colours representing different pledges for expressing peace in their daily lives.
Although the students’ exuberance hampered the precision of the heart’s shape, it was good to see that the event had clearly had an effect on them. All told, the event was a great way to start the Remembrance weekend with a focus on peace.
