Coventry against Racism is a broad anti-racist group that has existed for a number of years. It is open to all organisations and individuals who are oppose racism and fascism.
This e newsletter invites comments from those who support our aims.
The Overall Scene
There’s no doubt that Britain and the world has seen rise in racist actions. The election of Trump in the USA signalled to people that racist views could be considered mainstream. In Britain reported hate crime has seen an increase as have racist incidents. Racists such as Anne Marie Waters once of UKIP but now of the Far Right For Britain Party was given a platform at Warwick University. Robinson and his far right supporters march in our major cities pushing their hate.
All these developments must be taken seriously. CAR believes that we need to take the majority view which is anti-racist and pro community into workplaces and our communities. We will stand with others against the bigots.
For this reason and others we encourage people to attend the Stand up to Racism national demonstration on 17th November. This demonstration gives us the majority the opportunity for us to make our voice heard.
Black History Month
Come along to hear Roger Mackenzie Assistant General Secretary of UNISON the public service union at the Council House on 17th October at 7 PM
Coventry Peace Month
CAR is planning a major event possibility on 6th November. We hope to have a speaker who will talk about Windrush and the forced expulsions of Citizens of this Country – most of whom have lived here for decades. It will give us an opportunity to get an update on the latest actions of this Government who are still committed to what CAR considers to be a hostile environment for people who happen to have been born outside of the UK.
