Cardinal Newman School
This school is passionate about peace and justice. As Faculty Leader of Humanities and Peace and Justice Coordinator Rhys Davies says
As a Catholic school we already do a lot of things but it is not until we worked on the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings with Coventry based peace charity (http://www.normandy-day.co.uk/about/) that we slowly developed into a school that is passionate about peace and justice. Dennis Davison the founder and D-Day veteran does lots of work with our school (he is 93) about what he went through and how young people can carry the baton of peace into the next generation. There have been many projects that we have tried to promote. We are also working on a peace orchard at Coundon park.
Since 2014 we have created a peace and Justice group and have been involved in many projects dealing with looking at events from the past and today to create a more peaceful and secure future. You can visit our website to explore the news section and see what we are about as a school: http://www.cardinalnewman.coventry.sch.uk/
We have had peace picnics, a peace festival and created a peace prayer garden that has won an award. This tied in with the commemorations of WWI but it is a memorial to past students and staff that have passed away. http://www.centenarybattlefieldtours.org/legacy-110/legacy-110-post-visit- commemorative-projects/case-studies/
Recently we were awarded peaceful schools status. the first Secondary school in the city and country to be awarded this; http://www.peacefulschools.org.uk/
