The Coventry Lord Mayor’s Annual Peace Lecture 2024
This year’s Peace Lecture will be on Wednesday 6th November at Coventry Cathedral.
The lecture will be given by Professor Nicola Pratt from Warwick university and the subject is:
“Can there be Peace without Justice in the Middle East?”
This promises to be an interesting evening at a time when the war in Israel/Gaza/Lebanon is ongoing. With the aim of achieving peace, it is crucial to see things from all sides and to try to understand the perspectives and motives of all actors involved in the conflict. There will be time for questions and discussion with a view to shedding some light on how a lasting peace is to be achieved.
Nicola Pratt (she/her) is a professor of International Politics of the Middle East at the University of Warwick. With over 25 years of experience researching the Middle East and North Africa, she focuses on amplifying the voices of marginalized groups, especially women, and examines how European colonialism and Western imperialism have shaped the region’s politics. Nicola has written several books and articles on these topics. Her most recent book, Embodying Geopolitics: Generations of Women’s Activism in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon (University of California Press, 2020), received the Susan Strange Prize for Best Book of 2020 from the British International Studies Association. She is also the current president of the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (BRISMES).
Coventry Lord Mayor Councillor Mal Mutton welcomes everybody.
Doors open at 7pm. Lecture begins at 7.30pm.
