On 2 December, PeaceJam will deliver free CPD training for teachers based on the Compassion in Action curriculum. This uses the stories of PeaceJam’s 14 Nobel Peace Prize winners to promote inclusivity and cohesiveness. The curriculum is tailored to meet OFSTED criteria, from literacy through to personal and social development and is not prescriptive. This means schools can integrate the programme into the school curriculum including: Religious Education, Citizenship, PSHE and Humanities; or use it in tutor time, assemblies or as a lunch time/ after school activity.
The training will take place online over the course of two, one a half hour sessions and will focus on how to:
- Introduce the programme
- Facilitate activities
- Take action through PeaceJam’s 1 Billion Acts of Peace campaign
Part 1: Wednesday 2 December, 4:30-6:00pm
Part 2: Wednesday 9 December, 4:30-6:00pm
PeaceJam UK are providing the Compassion in Action curriculum and online training for free thanks to support from the Erasmus+ programme through the European Union. The curriculum and training is on offer for Secondary School Teachers and Youth Group Leaders working with young people aged 12-18.
External evaluations conducted by IPSOS MORI and RMC Research Corporation have shown that young people who participate in PeaceJam programmes show a measurable improvement in academic skills and knowledge. They also become more engaged in school and community. Incidents of violence have decreased in schools and community-based organisations where PeaceJam programmes have been implemented.
