On 18th July 2022, after they have received honorary degrees in the morning from Coventry University, H.E. Mr Miguel Moratinos and Emma Sky will be leading a panel discussion in Drapers’ Hall, Coventry about ‘Peace4Culture and how peace and the preservation of cultural and religious heritage are dependent on each other’.
Azerbaijan launched Peace4Culture Global Campaign with United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and ICESCO.
The “Peace4Culture Global Call” Action Plan underpins the interdependence of peaceful relations and the safeguarding of cultural and religious heritage. Culture defines and reflects identity and highlights the difference between people and communities. The vast majority of people on earth are members of a faith or spiritual community. And although each has their own traditions and convictions, they share together common values such as compassion, humility and respect for others regardless of their religion, race, culture or gender.
The “Peace4Culture Global Call” initiative equally highlights the universality of cultural religious heritage sites as symbols of our shared humanity. In this context, the United Nations Plan of Action to Safeguard Religious Sites, developed by UNAOC in 2019, emphasizes the sanctity and universality of religious sites which are symbols of our identity and shared humanity.
Mr Moratinos is the High Representative for the UNAOC and a former Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Emma Sky is the founding Director of the Yale World Fellows Programme at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. She was Political Advisor to US General Odierno when he was the Commanding General of US Forces in Iraq and she also advised General Petraeus on reconciliation. She is a regular media commentator.
The event will start at 1:30pm in Drapers Hall, Coventry and will end no later than 3pm.
