Certificate of Coventry – Hiroshima Friendship
At the Hiroshima Commemoration held in Coventry Cathedral on 6 August 2020, the certificate of friendship from the City of Coventry to the City of Hiroshima shown below was presented by the Lord Mayor of Coventry to Dr Miho Taka from Coventry University’s Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations and Yui Taka-Hussan a student of Finham Park School Coventry who were representing the Ambassador of the embassy of Japan to the United Kingdom.
In the absence of Coronavirus, the Ambassador of Japan would have accepted the certificate on behalf of the City of Hiroshima.
On 23rd September 2020, in the City of Hiroshima, Hideko Okamoto from Hiroshima Coventry Friendship Club presented the certificate to Mayor Kazumi Matsui in the City Hall of Hiroshima.
The certificate also commemorated the occasion of over ten years of particular exchanges between Coventry and Hiroshima facilitated by Hiroshima Coventry Friendship Club.
The body of the message of the certificate says in part –
“This is our cry, this is our prayer, peace in our world”
Reaffirms the City of Coventry, in particular Coventry Association for International Friendship and the Hiroshima Coventry Friendship Club to the commitment of friendship with the City of Hiroshima promoting good community relationships and future co-operation and peace making initiatives.
