Coventry City of Sanctuary
Coventry City of Sanctuary is part of the City of Sanctuary Network, a movement spread throughout the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, committed to building a culture of hospitality and welcome, especially for refugees seeking sanctuary from war and persecution.
The aims are
- Promoting the inclusion and welfare of refugees and asylum-seekers by encouraging public, commercial and voluntary organisations to make a commitment to provide welcome and safety within Coventry ‘City of Sanctuary’.
- Facilitating new and established networks; encouraging and supporting local communities, businesses and organisations in welcoming and assisting asylum-seekers and refugees.
- Publicising and celebrating the contribution of asylum-seekers and refugees to their local communities and to UK society and culture. Challenging hostility and discrimination against them.
Coventry City of Sanctuary is supported by 78 organisations who have declared their commitment to welcoming, and including in their activities, those who seek sanctuary in our city. This page provides information and links to those who have asked to be identified on this page and some information about the service they provide.
If your organisation has or would like to pledge support for City of Sanctuary please tell us what you would like this website to say about your commitment to welcome. The City of Sanctuary is only as good as our network of pledgers and we thank each for your commitment and support.
Their website include resources that help with such things as challenging racism and fear of others.
In September 2017 Coventry City of Sanctuary presented Warwick University with University of Sanctuary accreditation in recognition of the ongoing commitment from Warwick to support refugees and forced migrants. More about Universities of Sanctuary at Warwick here.
