Hiroshima Commemoration in Coventry Cathedral

6 August 2020 will be the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance at the event in Coventry Cathedral this year is limited, but it will be streamed live on the Cathedral Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/coventrycathedral/
The programme is as follows:
4:00pm Guests arrive and music is played on the Norwegian organ by Mr Tony Edwards.
4:30pm Councillor Joe Clifford will ring the Peace Bell
Manjit Kaur will introduce the event.
Cllr Ann Lucas, Lord Mayor of Coventry, will welcome guests.
A video message will be played from Mr Yasumasa Nagamine, Japanese Ambassador to the UK.
A video greeting from the people of Hiroshima to the people of Coventry by Mrs Nagamine.
A greeting from the people of Coventry to the people of Hiroshima will be read by the Lord Mayor.
The Lord Mayor will present of a certificate of Friendship to Dr Miho Taka to be passed to the city of Hiroshima.
Dean of Coventry Cathedral John Witcombe will talk about the Cross of Nails which will be presented to Hiroshima.
Coventry Hiroshima Poet Antony Owen will read a poem.
Manjit Kaur will read “We remember”
A video of Sadako’s Story being read by Cardinal Newman students.
The last paragraph of Sadako’s story will read in Japanese read by Dr Miho Taka.
Mary Goodwin will read English translation of conclusion of Sadako’s story.
