Volgograd-Coventry is a musical celebration of 75 years of friendship as the first TWIN CITIES in the World to be held in the Albany Theatre on 27 October.
Enjoy an hour of Russian inspired music as young people from Volgograd and Coventry celebrate the 75th Anniversary of their becoming the first Twin Cities in the World.
Volzhanochka Children’s Dance Group – under the direction of Olga Ananyeva (the group will be performing a number of dances from across Russia and the Volga region. From the opening welcome dance called ‘Bread and Salt’ to a Cossack dance from the Volgograd Region the theatre will be alive with traditional music and vibrant folk dance and ballet. In particular there will be a performance of the ‘Russian Dance’ from Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ and ‘Dragonfly’ to music by F Kreisler.
Yana Besyadynskaya, Lyric Soprano – a graduate of the prestigious Moscow Conservatory, Yana has performed at Lincoln Centre, Carnegie Hall, Verbier Festival, Frankfurt Opera, Tokyo Opera City Hall and has toured throughout much of the world. A prize winner of 10 International Competitions, Ms. Besyadynskaya is also a co-creator and organizer of International Humanitarian Projects: “Centuries Without War” and “Harmony of the Future”.
Yuri Ilynov, Pianist & Musical Director, studied music and conducting at the St Petersburg Conservatory and Volgograd Institute of Arts & Culture. A prize winner at many international piano competitions. Past Chief Conductor Tsarytsin Opera House, Conductor at Ruse State Opera, Bulgaria and currently Conductor and Korrepetitor at Sofia National Opera House. Yuri has also been guest conductor in Argentina, Equador, Mexico.
Albert Zhmaev, Violin, First violin and Concertmaster of the Volgograd Academic Symphony Orchestra. Albert has won may National and International prized including Laureate of the Ist degree of International competitions (Volgograd 2009, St. Petersburg 2009, Volgograd 2013, Volgograd 2017).

Maria Dunham & her Russian Ballet School, Coventry – Russian born teacher Maria Dunham who trained in Moscow, set up her ballet School in Coventry and it’s now in its 2nd year. The young dancers will be performing with their Russian colleagues for the first time at the start of a new friendship between young people from both cities
Derek Nisbet, Composer and Film-maker, Derek has been involved in a number of Twin City projects with Coventry & Volgograd including the ‘Virtual Tablecloth’ and with colleague Peter Cann, composed Twin Song, especially for the 70th Anniversary and to be performed again in Coventry tonight.
Amy Kakoura – Coventry singer, actor, musician and composer, Amy studied musical theatre at the Guildford School of Acting. She tours regularly across the UK and internationally. She co-wrote and co-produced the musical ‘Songs from a Ledge’ in 2014, has performed with Theatre Absolute and Talking Birds, 2 Coventry based arts organisations.
