Make the world a little friendlier!

Offer your hand for international friendship! Welcome an adult international student into your home for a day, weekend, or 4 days at Christmas, and do your bit to make the world a little friendlier. Many adult international students from across the world would love to spend a few days with you, learning about British culture, experiencing UK home-life, and telling you about their own country.

Chinese student, Shuai Peng, wrote “My happiest moment ever since I came to UK is the Saturday night of my visit. We sat around the kitchen and prepared dinner together, we chatted happily and played the card game in the living room. You might think those are the simple things, but to me they are special, because that was the first time I felt not homesick.”

HOST is a charity which promotes international friendship and understanding. We arrange for adult international students who are currently studying in the UK to spend a day, weekend, or Christmas in the homes of volunteers across the UK. These visits provide excellent opportunities for both students and hosts to meet and to learn about one another’s cultures and countries.

HOST was founded in 1987 by the British Council, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and Victoria League. Hosting an international student is a wonderful opportunity to meet people from different places across the world. Obviously, with the EU Referendum, and now Trump’s election, it is important that we help international people feel welcome in the UK, and that we encourage dialogue between different countries.
