On 6 June the Lord Mayor of Coventry John Blundell officially opened the Community Peace Orchard in the presence of Normandy Day veteran Dennis Davison (who suggested the idea of the orchard) and children from local schools after a community picnic in the summer sunshine.

The orchard has been planted to commemorate those who fell during the Normandy Day Landings on 6 June 1944 with support from Heritage Lottery Fund, National Lottery Fund, Cardinal Newman School, Normandy Day UK and People’s Postcode Lottery.

There are plans to teach local people and children how to look after the fruit trees and a website is currently being developed to teach the public about the orchard.
