Crime and Accountability Book published by Coventry LMPC
Coventry Lord Mayor’s Committee for Peace and Reconciliation have re-published a classic title in the work of restorative justice entitled
Crime and Accountability: Victim/Offender Mediation in Practice
by Tony F Marshall and Susan Merry
It is available now on Amazon in print or ebook.
This work was originally published for the Home Office in 1990 and describes the first substantial empirical research carried out in the UK on mediation and reparation after crime. It followed the decision by the then Home Secretary, Mr Leon Brittan to fund four experimental mediation and reparation schemes in the United Kingdom.
It includes an account of the Coventry Reparation Scheme administered by the West Midlands Probation Service but managed by an independent committee of representatives of court user groups and local voluntary bodies. Barbara Tudor, who is now a member of the Coventry Restorative Justice Forum, was a key figure in this scheme.
