Pru Porretta MBE
Coventry’s official Lady Godiva Pru Porretta MBE believes that Lady Godiva is as important a figure today as she has ever been. Pru is the only woman in Coventry’s history to have re-enacted the famous ride many times in the major Godiva procession, a tradition since 1678. Over the last 35 years, Pru has taken the role further to actively promote the City of Coventry with schools and built bridges with communities locally, nationally and internationally.
Being a qualified Heart of England tourist guide, she has responded to many requests for historic tours. In addition she runs educational workshops, storytelling and extended heritage, multicultural events, women’s events, Peace and Reconciliation Programmes and Events.
Pru formed the Godiva Sisters group 17 years ago, in which local women from all faiths and cultures meet to portray characters both ancient and modern, whose lives have inspired and can still inspire today through the story of Godiva as well as raising the profile of minority groups and engendering community cohesion.
The Godiva Trust charity of which she is founder, director and one of the trustees is the legacy of all her work. It helps all generations of women, men and children from Coventry’s diverse cultures better relate and reinterpret our heritage celebrations with a unique identity, and underpins the City’s international role as a Centre for Peace and Reconciliation.
Under the name of “Imagination Reading Cafe”, we hold regular storytelling sessions with musicians and storytellers in and around Coventry. We deliver educational programmes and community workshops for our International Women’s week in March, plus the annual International Women’s Day Awards. We actively participate and support the Positive Images Festival each year and have done since its inception.
Godiva Trust are delighted to be selected by Friends of Foleshill to deliver the Communities of Light Event at Edgwick Park on Saturday 14th October 2017 to which everyone is invited.

Good afternoon. My name is John Kelly and recently Pru came over to Kenilworth Library to give a talk to my Hong Kong Students. Pru was excellent and we appreciate the effort she made to come over. I have a card signed by the group that I would like to give to Pru. Where would I be able to deliver it?
I have passed your message on to Pru.
